Playing at nursing
I stayed home from work today. It was due to the fact that my wife slipped in the shower this morning. She opened a gash about 3cm (just over 1in) long just below her left elbow and has multiple bruises. After going out to get some SteriStrips to help keep her wound closed, I decided that it probably would be best to stay home as she was sore all over and did not expect to be able to move for a few hours. Fortunately for me she required very little care, but I was very glad to have been able to take the time off just in case.

I spent most of the day just surfing the web. I am looking at using a Wiki to keep track of things I have to do. After looking at many different ones, the current favourite flavor of Wiki is StikiPad. Time will tell if I continue to use it. I must say that it is nice that they offer an opportunity to try out their offering with a free account so I can "kick the tires" as it were to find out if I want to really make use of it.

Good night!

The food blog
I do not know why, but for the last few days I have been including in just about every entry what we have had to eat. Actually, I think that the days where I did not mention food are the days were we ended up going out to eat. My wife made chili today, and it took all of my willpower to resist having a second bowl. I did actually fix a second bowl, but I am taking it to work tomorrow for lunch. Yummy!

Thursdays are choir practice nights so I once again spent a good part of the evening out of the house. Which is my excuse for not having much to say in my blog entry.

One thing I should do is try and reduce the number of email accounts I check for mail (and actually receive relevant mail). I am currently receiving mail in 7 different email accounts! And that does not include the two work email accounts I have! At different times I have set up each mail accounts to receive some valid emails (ie. not spam) so I have to check all of them. Which reminds me that I have not checked on two of those in a few days. I better go ahead and do that before going to bed.

Good night!

New Look
Well that did not take long. I just happened to find a template that I really liked, so I went ahead and made the change. I like the fact that the theme is doodling, because that is something that I like to do a lot.

There are still a few things that need to be put back in place, but for the time being this will do.

Good night!

Looking at new looks
I have been thinking lately that my blogs are a little too bland. Now I know that the most important of the blog is not how it looks, but its contents. But there is nothing wrong with having your journal look good. Besides, this gives me a chance to learn about templates and stuff.

Since I had no meetings to go to last night, I spent the whole evening at home in front of the computer. It gave me a chance to just surf, which is something I do not get much of a chance to do anymore. It was a relaxing time, even though I ended up staying up later than I had anticipated. I was mentioning earlier that I would love it if the days were longer; but then I thought that I would probably still complain that the days are not long enough.

Tonight was another meeting at the church, so once again I was out for a good part of the evening. I did get a chance to eat dinner with my wife and daughter so that part was good.

Good night!

200th post!
I spent very little time at home today as I had to go to church for an Official Board meeting so I have very little to say.

Blogger keeps track of how many posts you have in your blog so I happen to know that this entry will be the 200th one I have made since July of 2005. I am amazed that I have kept going with this blog for this long; even more considering that I am really writing 2 different blogs every night (well now 3 if you count my new work blog). Both of those original blogs now have at least 200 posts in each of them. That simply boggles my mind.

Good night!

Quiet day at home
This is what weekends should be like: resting at home, recovering from the work week. I guess that is just a fancy way of saying that I once again did nothing for most of the day. I did go to church in the morning, and I helped my wife with lunch: my wife seasoned the chicken fingers and I had the hard task of putting the chicken in the fryer and then wait 10 minutes. Talk about a hard task. It did taste very good though. Kudos to my wife for another very good meal.

As I mentioned yesterday, I finished the second badge on Pogo. So now all that is left to do is for me to select a personal challenge for the 3rd available badge. I have not been very successful in finding those lately; mostly because I have already done all of the badges I like. So the only ones I have left that are not done are ones I do not care to do. I guess I will just have to redo a badge.

I have been playing with some of those social networking sites: hi5, myspace, tagworld. They all seem very nice, but the only problem is that you need to have friends with whom you want to share those social networking sites. At work we pretty much all want separate work and private lives so we do not interact with each other during the non work hours. And really I do not have other friends, except for family, and do I really want to join in my kids social groups? I am a "friend" to my daughters on hi5, and having looked at the network that was created I really have nothing in common with any of those people (except that I know my daughters). So it would appear that this experiment will just fizzle out.

Good Night!

Chris thy name is slug
Oh it is not that I did nothing today, it is just that I did most of it seated in front of the computer. I only went out of the house once, and it was because I needed to get some cat litter so I could refresh (wait for it) our cat's litter (No, really?). As usual I ended up with a few extra things, but that is pretty much par for the course.

Beef stir fry over angel(?) nest noodles. I am not sure that angel is the right word there, but whatever that word is, the end result was very good. There is none left.

I spend some of today working on this week's badges on Pogo. I have finished one and am half way done the other. Fortunately this week the chosen games are ones I do not mind playing. It would be safe to assume that I will spend some of tomorrow finishing that badge. You will know where to find me: sitting in front of the computer again.

Good night!

End of the work week
I really need to start going to bed at an earlier time so I can get more sleep every night. Since I have not been doing that lately, I find myself to be easily irritable and not willing to get involved in anything.

My wife fixed another very good meal tonight (potato soup and open faced grilled cheese), this despite my obvious lack of enthusiasm for anything she was suggesting. I just could not get interesting in any of the choices (see paragraph one).

It was a quiet evening at home mainly because I sat rooted in front of the computer all evening, with the exception of a quick trip back to the office to retrieve the office laptop so it can be used at church on Sunday.

It was good to see that my son has finally gotten Shaw to fix his internet access (Yo Brian!) so he was once again online this evening. Well I should say his computer was online as he was "away from the computer" which, according to my wife who had talked to him, meant he had gone out for the evening but not logged off. I guess one can do that when one is the only one using one's computer (I wonder if I used enough ones).

Good night one and all!

Back to little time at home
I had a meeting for church this evening which ran from 7pm to after 9pm so I again did not have much time to spend at home. I did get to eat dinner at home between work and the meeting, so that was nice - particularly since my wife prepared one of my favourite dishes: Tuna casserole. It was another great culinary success of which I ate entirely too much.

I did spend a little time with my wife when we went for a quick trip to the grocery store, but other than that I have been trying to catch up with my mail and my blog and trying to get to bed before midnight. I might actually make it tonight since there is another 12 minutes before midnight.

I guess I better close then. Good night!

Lots of time at home for a change
I spent all day at home today. My wife had some dental work done yesterday and had pain pretty much on the whole side of her face where the tooth that had been worked on was. So I decided to stay and work from home just in case she needed anything. It turned out that she did not but I felt much better being at home.

It was also a very relaxing evening. We did the family thing and went out together for dinner (treat from my younger daughter) and had a good time. Then came back home and just spend time around each other. Those are the best evenings.

Good night!

Little time spent at home
As I had mentioned yesterday, I did not spend much time here at home today. After coming home after work, I spent the little time I had having dinner (which was very good). I then went to church for the Discernment committee meeting. The meeting lasted for over 3 hours and I have now been back home for just over an hour. So there has not been much time to do much of anything.

So I will bid you Goodnight!

Another quiet day at home
I guess I just lead a boring life. And for that I am mostly thankful.

This being Sunday, I went to church in the morning. After church, I prepared some rice to go with the roast we were having for lunch. Another great meal prepared by my wife. Then I pretty much spend the whole afternoon parked in front of the computer - although I did keep an eye over at the TV as my wife and younger daughter were watching movies: "Maid in Manhattan" and "Prime". I had seen "Maid in Manhattan" before and it was just as enjoyable the second time around. "Prime" on the other hand I had not seen, and it definitely was a romantic comedy. Since I had not seen it before, I actually paid less attention to it than I had the first movie as that one I knew I liked. Go figure.

Good night!

I actually remembered
I have always been pretty clueless when it comes to special days. I do not dress up for Halloween, do not play tricks on people for April Fool's day, and did not usually wore green for St. Patrick's day. So it was interesting to see that I actually wore a green shirt today at the office. Not that there was anything particular done at work - as a matter of fact I do not think it was mentioned at all. And I cannot say that I remember anybody else wearing green. Oh well, I guess it would be like me to be out of the norm.

I woke up very late this morning: 90 minutes later than I should have. It turns out that I had set up my alarm to go off at 6:45pm, not 6:45am which is when I wanted to get up. Fortunately for me, my wife had nothing planned for the morning so I was able to take the minivan to work. Which meant that I actually got to work pretty much on time.

Other than that, a pretty quiet evening at home spent watching the end of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". We are big Harry Potter fans here; we have all the books and all the movies.

Good night!

Yet another toy
It would appear that I have found yet another piece of software to play with. This time it is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor that resides within your Firefox web browser. This is thanks to an extension written by the folks at Performancing. I am using it as we speak - we will see how well it works.

This is kind of a new thing for me this updating my blog this early in the day. Which of course means that there are still things that could happen which I cannot yet write about. I am going to choir practice tonight so there will not be much time to do stuff tonight.

Good afternoon!

Good food
Today was a good day. I got to eat two of my favourite meals, both prepared by my lovely wife (love you, sweetie!): I had a corned beef wrap for lunch, and for dinner spaghetti and meatballs. And as usually happens when there is good food to eat (which is pretty much everyday), I am sitting here in front of the computer thinking that I should not have had that second helping. But it was soooo good.

A quiet evening at home, marred only by the fact that my younger daughter is not feeling well. She went to bed immediately after dinner - you know she is not feeling well when she foregoes spending the evening IMing her friends. Hopefully she will feel better in the morning.

Good night!

Stayed at home
I got up this morning to go take a shower, and my body basically told me that I needed more sleep. So I called in sick and went back to bed. I ended up sleeping almost 13 hours so my body was not kidding.

After I got up, I do not remember doing much. All I remember is that whatever it was I was doing, it was in front of the computer. I did go to a church meeting in the evening, but otherwise it was a day where basically nothing got done.

Oh I forgot, I did do one thing: I fixed the oven door. One of the screws holding the handle to the oven made its way through its hole. So I had to take the oven door apart, diagnose the problem, find a part to fix the problem (a steel washer), and the put the door back together again. Fortunately for me, the door was not like Humpty Dumpty.

Good night!

Goodbye! And come back soon
We took my older daughter to the airport this morning so she could go back to finish the Winter session at Naramata. At least this time she is only gone for about four weeks, which is when the session ends.

Otherwise, it has been a pretty uneventful day. Did the work thing (reminder that you can read about work related stuff at "Working hard or hardly working") then came home. I got up a little late for my shower this morning so did not have time to get my lunch ready; so I ended up eating a sandwich from the cafeteria in the building. Sandwich and a pop: $6.42. Not going hungry: priceless...

It was a gorgeous day outside. I know because I have a window seat at the office. Which basically means that I can see what I am missing while sitting at my desk. Of course, here the winter is usually rain, rain, and more rain so I am usually pretty darn happy that I am working at a desk job.

I think I actually have a chance at going to bed somewhat early tonight, so I am going to try and do that.

Good night!

Quiet Sunday at home
I don't know that there is a lot to say about my day. I did not do much, besides going to church in the morning, taking the family out for lunch then doing a little shopping. Then came back at home and have been here since - except for a quick outing to get my older daughter back from her evening out.

Speaking of my older daughter, it was great to have her here for the weekend. She is going back to Naramata in the morning for the rest of Winter session. We will be driving her to the airport tomorrow morning. I am sad that she is leaving again, but it is only for just under a month this time.

A couple of days ago I talked about Bloglines. I have found another website that aggregates websites and blogs: Netvibes. It is another one that is very interesting. You might want to have a look to see if one of those would work for you.

I better close since I have to get up early in the morning.

Good night!

Day of almost rest
I had not planned to do much today, and that is pretty much what I have done. My daughters (it's great to be able to say daughters again - even if it is only for the weekend) took my wife and I out for lunch at Wendy's (although I think my younger daughter paid). That was pretty much the only outing for today - except for a quick trip to Future Shop to exchange a DVD we were having trouble with.

There was a lot of talk on the web this week about Google Calendar. No, they do not yet have an calendar offering, but one is apparently being worked on and someone was able to obtain some screenshots. Which reminded me that I am still looking for a good calendar application that I can use on the web. I saw on TechCrunch a list of calendar offerings on the web and I spend a few hours trying most of them. The one that worked the best for me is CalendarHub, and I have spent time filling out most of the non-work appointments I have to give it a good try. You can publish your calendar for others to have a look at and I have done just that. You can have a look at my calendar if you want. You can also share your calendar with other CalendarHub users.

Good night!

Visitor
I don't know if I mentioned this before but my older daughter, who has been on course in Naramata since the beginning of January, is home for the weekend for a visit. Woohoo! So to celebrate we went out for dinner at the "4 Mile House Restaurant". Good food, but messy. I managed to drop all kinds of stuff on my shirt. I am obviously not fit to take out in public.

I have been putting a lot of work stuff here. Not that it is a bad thing, but since I have been spending a lot of time at Bloglines, and they have a blog there. So, stupidly, I decided that I would put my work related stuff there. So if anyone is interested about what happens at work it will be at my new blog: "Working hard or hardly working". At least for the time being anyway.

Good night!

RSS aggregator
Does the title mean anything to you? If so, then you probably know about Bloglines. If not, then you should really check it out. Do you visit a lot of websites regularly and/or follow some blogs? Bloglines allows you to centrally monitor those websites and blogs so that you do not have to go all over the web to keep track of things. Just visit Bloglines.

Things have been pretty quiet at work, well at least as far as problems are concerned. We still have a lot of work that probably will not get done until my co-worker is back from her vacation next Monday.

Choir practice night, so there has not been much time home.

Good night!

Need more sleep
I have nobody but myself to blame. I did not go to sleep until well past 1am last night (this morning?) so I was about 1.5 hours short of my usual amount of sleep. Needless to say, I am really dragging right now. I will be going to bed immediately after updating the blog.

Work is not too bad since we seem to have gotten the media errors under control. We have not gotten rid of them completely, but they are definitely more at a manageable level. I cannot wait for my co-worker to come back so I can get back to just working on problems and not have to attend all these meetings.

We attended a real estate information session tonight; I think that they should give that information out in high school. I would like to think that I would have made different decisions about buying/renting when I first started working full time. In any case, it is definitely information everyone should be aware of.

Good night!

No time to get bored
We did quite a few things today, but it was fun because most of them were done with all the family. It all started with church, then we had sandwiches for lunch and then headed to the house of the manager of my younger daughter. My daughter's boss lost her mother a few days ago and we all went to pay our respects. Since she likes animals, we took our dogs with us for the visit. They certainly were a hit.

Afterwards, we stopped at Home Outfitters as my wife is looking for stuff. Unfortunately she did not find what she was looking for. After recharging our batteries at home for a little while, we headed out to Wal-Mart. Unfortunately they did not have what my wife was looking for either. So we went and tried the other Wal-Mart in town; but to no avail. I guess my wife will be hitting specialty shops tomorrow.

I am going back to work tomorrow, but I did have a great weekend since I did not have to worry about anything at the office. Hopefully my co-worker is back tomorrow and things can go back to normal with me not going to meetings again.

Good night!

Slacking off
Looks like I have not been keeping up with my blogging those last few days. I basically boiled down to me not feeling like writing anything whenever I finally got finished doing whatever else I was doing. I was going to bed too late as it was already and did not want to make it later.

I have had a half-decent few days. At work, we seem to be catching with the backup workload now that we are no longer getting multiple tape errors every night. Actually, we have not been getting any for the last few days (knock on wood) and let's hope this continues. I was able to leave the weekend monitoring to someone else this weekend so I have not been thinking about work (too much).

I has been nice to be able to hang out with the family without having to worry about things at work. We have gone out for meals a few times (thanks to my tax refund) and have had a quiet time together.

Good night!
